TDD Training for 9-1-1 Professionals
Don't find yourself in violation of ADA!
Class Description:
- By the order of Attorney General Janet Reno, all 9-1-1 centers must have the capability to answer and handle TDD calls and cannot transfer them.
- TDD callers don't currently trust the 911 system due to high profile mistakes.
- Your agency will violate state and federal laws if you are not ADA compliant.
Any 911 center that does not provide direct TDD access by then will be in violation of the ADA. The State Telecommunications Department has allocated funds for purchasing TDD machines for every 911 center in the state. Now is the time to TDD train your calltakers.
Topics Include:
- Operating a TDD
- Jargon used by TDD callers
- Differences in TDD Callers (Deaf since birth vs. becoming deaf)
- Myths that the TDD Community has regarding 911
- TDD Abbreviations
- How to avoid "dropped calls"
- How to obtain valuable information via TDD during routine or emergency calls
Join with centers like Monterey County 911, San Bruno Police, Campbell Police and Fremont Fire by training your entire staff. We also train your trainers so that they can return to develop your staff.
