"I touch the future -- I teach"


Class Description:

Good teaching is as much about passion as it is about reason. It is one-fourth preparation and three-fourths theater. Teaching is a joint venture—not only for the students but also for the instructor. This course is designed to prepare the new or unseasoned public safety instructor for their teaching assignments within their agency or at a public safety academy. It also revives and strengthens the skills of current instructors.

  • Role of the Instructor
  • Concepts of adult learning
  • Developing lesson plans
  • Presentation methods
  • Presentation resources
  • PowerPoint presentations
  • Public speaking
  • The art of facilitation
  • Total training packages
  • Putting it all together (individual presentations)

Lecture, discussion, demonstration and class activities will serve as the medium of instruction for this course. Audio-visual aids and learning activities will be used to facilitate meaningful instruction. Individual guidance will be provided as required. Student will come away with the tools necessary to provide meaningful course instruction. Students are encouraged to bring their own laptops for the PowerPoint instruction and development of course materials for their final presentation.

The primary objective of this course is to successfuly apply what is learned in class in an instructional presentation to their peers.


Target Audience: Any public safety employee with a sincere interest in teaching or any current instructor needing to meet California POST standards for being an academy instructor.


Class length: 24 hours


Certification: California POST Plan II. Call for details regarding other certifications.
